The Crown Jewels

Imagine a raucous, hilarious play starring Al Murray, Mel Giedroyc, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Neil Morrissey and Joe Thomas. Fantastic? Yes, and it’s a real thing! They all star in The Crown Jewels at the Garrick Theatre, a brand new play been written by Simon Nye, the BAFTA-nominated creator of The Durrells and the all-time TV comedy classic Men Behaving Badly. It’s directed by Sean Foley, a multi-Olivier Award winner who made us laugh out loud with Upstart Crow and The Ladykillers. Buy The Crown Jewels theatre tickets now and enjoy a comedy with a true story behind it.

You’ll meet the charismatic yet unpredictable Colonel Blood, a criminal determined to succeed at the biggest heist... ever. He’s going to steal the Crown Jewels, he’s going to do it in plain sight, and he has found a team of misfits to help him achieve it. The creative team includes the Set and Costume Designer Michael Taylor, the Lighting Designer Natasha Chivers and Sound Designer Andy Graham. It’s produced by Simon Friend in association with Adam Kenwright, Trafalgar Theatre Productions, Jenny King, Gavin Kalin, David Adkin and JAS Productions. Billed as a ‘riotous new comedy based on the most unbelievable royal caper in British history’, it’s designed to delight.

Belly laughingly funny
Excellent show, laughed till tears were rolling down my cheeks. Excellent performance from ALL the cast but Al Murray stole the show.

A good laugh
Chaotic none sense, but with a brilliant cast who carry it off with great enthusiasm.

Al Murray knocked it out of the park!
We were not familiar with this comedic genius of Al Murray, as we are visiting the United States. The show was fabulous!!!! I haven’t laughed so hard in years! Bravo for a brilliant performance Mr. Murray!

Fantastic
The show was full laughs and surprises The actors were funny and interacted really well which made it extra funny . It was a great night out. A comedy romp. I especially laughed and enjoyed Ryan Lane, Aidan mcardle and Kieran brown. Well worth a visit

Fun,fun,fun
Didn't even know this show was playing until 2 days ago..so glad I took my two grown up sons to see it..very funny.

Disappointing
Whilst I was expecting comedy I was expecting a more refined show. The lines by Captain Blood were muffled and too fast in the first act and the plot was lost because of it. There was some excellent acting and fine touches but overall was more Pantomime than I was expecting. Mel was excellent.

An interesting take on a historic time
I agree not suitable for under twelves both because some of the language is 'funny' sexually explicit and many of the sexual innuendos would go over their heads (mind you I'm late 70's so what do I know). I enjoyed it.

Unimpressed
With such a fabulous cast I thought I would enjoy this show. Unfortunately, I did not! Although funny in parts I found the comedy quite puerile. I expected better.

Comedy theatre at its best!
The whole cast are fabulous. The interaction with the ‘court’ is very funny. I had to come back to watch it again! Our seats were great value for money. Would highly recommend this show and theatre as it is not as big as others so no endless flights of stairs to climb! 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Funny with great characters
Show was well paced with great interaction with the audience. Great costumes and characters.

A funny farce
Lots of laughing, and fun to see, but not much substance to the plot. So a serious theatre goer would not be impressed, but the average person would enjoy a good laugh. More lewd than expected, so don't take children too young, and not for the prudish.

Not a rollercoaster of laughes
Al Murrey was the best thing about this show, funniest moments happened when he appeared. Don't go expecting side splitting moments of laughter.

Excellent cast.

Barnstorming restoration
The Crown Jewels possessed all the right ingredients for a fun afternoon even before curtain up: stellar cast, great writing and a spin on a royal story. What’s not to like. Al Murray was as good as I:’ve ever seen him even if on occasion he slipped slightly into the Pub Landlord. Mel Giedroyc was superb in her dual role and Carrie Hope Fletcher’s songstress, a songbird to behold. I would recommend this show to anyone who has a royal interest in royal history even if the truth is slightly distorted by Simon Nye’s script.

Hysterical
We loved the show so fun throughout. Al Murray was very good, loved all his little innuendos and facial expressions. Can’t fault the show, laughed throughout. Such a talented and amusing cast who all played there parts to perfection.

Excellent
Excellent show, very funny, extremely well written. Carrie’s voice was absolutely phenomenal. All of the actors were incredibly funny and the audience engagement was excellent. It meant the entire performance was enjoyable to be part of.

Simply funny
Being an Aussie it was great to see the cast freely take the micky with a 1600 perspective out of England and so many other countries. All good fun and very clever. Was also good to have a comic play with some very nice musical interludes.

Nice actors
I’m French so maybe I didn’t all understand. So I loved acting actors and story. Some sentences in French…..I have loved it.

What. Farce
Great English farce, all the better for being based in truth. Audience interactions, brought into the plot - hilarious.

Funny with lots of cheese
Very funny. Good old tongue in cheek British humour. Crowd participation was funny. Mel plays fabulous characters with those sassy glances. Al, stole the show of course, great performance for someone who isn't known for his acting. If this play doesn't run for much longer than scheduled,I will be very surprised

Slapstick at its very best!
If you want a laugh then look no further. Brilliant witty comedy executed with flair by each and every professional on the stage. Leave your political correctness at home and enjoy the fun and frolics. Al Murray was simply superb and extremely funny with an amazing memory for his huge monologues. However we went to see the fabulous Mel Giedroyc who did not disappoint. It’s rare to be able to see so many well know. Actors in one show- don’t miss out!

The View From the Front Row
Absolutely amazing play and to have Al Murray picking on the audience - including me when he screamed in my face - was a really fun night out.
